Traveling in October? Then maybe Lloret de Mar in Spain is something for you.
October was a good month. Beside it being the most colorful month of the year it is also the month I were born in. My dear husband surprised me with a 1 week long trip to Spain. The offer was too good to resist even though I was (still am) very busy with my studies.
This was basically our first vacation together without Baby H, because everything happened so quickly after our marriage that we did not have the opportunity to travel before our little sweetheart was born. So we though that this was the perfect time to celebrate and have some couple time without baby. She was left in her grandparents care, as they offered to babysit. She really loves her grandparents’ house because she gets so indulged there (no surprise). My parents are over the moon because of their first grandchild and baby H is preciously showered with love and care.
From Barcelona Airport to Lloret de Mar
Tickets ware booked, luggages ware packed and everything was planned…. though there was a little problem. Our flight landed in Barcelona Airport and our hotel was booked in Lloret de Mar, a little beach city placed 75 km north from Barcelona. The question was; how to get from Barcelona Airport to Lloret de Mar? Well, there was the public transport (train and shuttle bus) but that was both time-consuming AND extremely expensive, given that I wanted to shop in Barcelona as well. Going back and forth would cost us more than our flight tickets.
There was a second option which included renting a car – and that is exactly what we did! And I am really glad that we did, because boooy how much that helped. We rented an economy car for only 10.13$!! We also bough a “Super Cover” which in other words means insurance in case of any damage, so that we would pay 0$ if anything happened. The insurance we bought was with everything included (so the most expensive insurance) for around 15§ so our whole renting period (6 days) cost us 25$ in total which is unbelievably INCREDIBLY cheap. We rented our car HERE in case you are curious. I know that they rent cars all around the world. Just choose the airport/city you want to receive the car from, as well as the renting dates. A long list of different car models and renting company (we rented from Goldcar) will now appear before you. Please make sure to let me know if you need more details around this subject as I would love to help.
Hotel in Lloret de Mar
We receive our car from the Airport and off we went. The city itself was so lovely. The beach was 700 meters long and the weather was lovely warm and sunny considering that it was at the end of October month.
The whole city was so mesmerizing, and the views were breathtaking. Beside its beaches the city is also known for its castle. We spent two days only walking through the city and exploring everything.
Doesn’t look like heaven on earth? Who doesn’t love palm trees?
From the other side of the castle
These two have been having the love of their life for decades.
Now to the down side of our trip. Our hotel was like HELL! I mean this almost ruined our whole vacation! We really should have read some recommendations online before booking, because the hotel turned out to be the worse hotel I have ever stayed at. H-Top Gran Casino Royal hotel – Please do yourself a favour and don’t book from this hotel if you ever happen to travel to Lloret de Mar. The staff was rude and fought with the guests staying at the hotel. The pool stunk of bleach (just like their food). The walls in the hotel rooms were cracked and their bathrooms stunk. We eventually moved room 2 times and it got worse and worse. Basically we got minimal sleep because of the shouting in the hotel and banging at doors. It was especially hard for the families with children, as a few families eventually just checked out before due date. That is one thing we regret – that we did not look up the hotel beforehand.
Destinations near Lloret de mar that we also visited
After 2 whole days in Lloret de mar, we decided to go for at drive. Having a car made it very convenient and we got to see so much more than we originally had planned. We visited Girona, which is a 20 minutes drive from Lloret de Mar.
Girona is among the oldest cities in Spain, and we celebrated my birthday in this city. With beautiful weather, good company and amazing food. See more of this city on our travel video below.
Next destination was Tossa de Mar, which we also spent a whole day exploring. Tossa de Mar had just another beautiful beach and yet another castle.
And lastly we of course also spent a day in Barcelona. Because it would be so ridiculous to travel to Spain without stopping by Barcelona. Lloret de Mar had so much to offer, but shopping was not an option whereas Barcelona is heaven for every shopping-loving woman like me. This was absolutely the perfect way to end our vacation. We only briefly visited Park Güell before heading to the Mall.
I wanted to take you guys with me, so I made this fun video below. Make sure to check it out and explore Spain with us!
